One Year Old

I am a little behind on Lainey's first year post, I know you all can't imagine why.... parties, Halloween festivities, work... no excuses! This should have been done last Friday, but I'm a week late.

This week Lainey had her first overnight to my parents house. We've never left her alone overnight, but I really needed a catch up on life day and we needed a date. We've only been out without her five times since she was born so about 10 hours total. I felt guilty at first, but really... that's pretty insane!

She loved being at my parents house. She loved feeding the ducks and geese by their house, she loved the park and splashpad, she enjoyed sweet treats they fed her and played in her special room constantly. My mom said she laughed and had fun the whole time which made me so happy!

I got her back at church on Wednesday night and the next day was the dreaded one year check up. She got five shots and a finger prick to test her iron and led levels. She weighed 21 lbs. 14 oz (63%), was 30 inches long, (77%) and had a head circumference of 46 cm (75%). The doctor also confirmed that she does have a hernia on her belly button so we will have to watch that over the next year, and she still has cradle cap. She did pretty well at her appointment considering all they put her through.

On Friday we went to Zoo Boo and spent time trick or treating, picking out another pumpkin at their pumpkin patch, and seeing lots of fun animals. We love the zoo and I can't wait to go more this year!

Lainey just seems so big to me at the big ole' age of one! She says "maama" ,"dad", "dis" (this), "dat" (that), "deese" (geese), "shuss" (shoes), "done" (all done), "peas" (please), "gurl" (girl), "baa" (bottle) "bala" (ball) and "baf" (bath). She is growing up, but I love that she is trying to communicate.

She has started throwing tantrums and has to get swats or go to time out several times already.

We are still sleeping through the night and regardless of what time she goes to bed she wakes up between 6 and 7am. She has started taking two naps a day again which I am totally ok with. If we are out an about and she misses her morning nap she's fine, but overall, two is much better than one. I'm still nursing her in the morning, but am close to weaning her. She takes whole milk just fine, but she still wants it out of a bottle rather than a sippy cup and I'm going to wait a month or so to fight that as well.

Lainey has also started sharing when asked. I praise her to no end for this, because I want her to give her toys without a huge fuss. I know that can be an issue for only children and so I hope working on this early will help.

We have started sitting on the potty more, but she is not to a point where she can control her bladder yet. She does understand that it's a good thing to go in the potty, but I don't think we will be ready for potty training for a while.

She eats just about anything, but prefers fruit to almost anything other than goldfish. She likes ground chicken a lot lately and raisins are also a fun new treat. (She pulled out all of the halloween candy yesterday and dug to find a pack of raisins. Once she found them she opened the box, sat on the floor and had a snack, I couldn't help but laugh.)

We love our little girl so much and thank God every day for the gift of her and the incredible friends we have to raise her around. He is so good!
